Page Cottrell (Class of 2011) is a volleyball star, and is majoring in Education. Cottrell spends 18 hours a week practicing volleyball while she is in season, and nine hours a week during the off-season.
When asked when she had time to study or have a social life, Cottrell said that "Studying and school work always comes first. My time management is great because I'm an athlete. I always have somewhere to be, so there isn't a lot of time for procrastination. I spend a lot of my time sleeping! I don't watch a lot of TV and I don't have a lot of down time. But I still find time for a good social life."
Ian Scott (Class of 2011) is one of the quickest guards on the men's basketball team. Scott, an International Relations major, spends more than 10 hours a week on his studies, and 20 hours a week on basketball. I asked Scott if he ever felt physically exhausted from his gruesome schedule.
"Sometimes I feel a little exhausted. When I do have some free time I try and relax by the pool or watch a good movie so that I'm physically ready for the upcoming week," Scott replied.
Lastly, women's basketball standout Kristina Mingos (Class of 2012) does it all, from making steals to taking three-point shots, and she still manages to maintain a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Mingos, a Biology major, is planning on attending dentistry school. She shared with me how she maintains a perfect GPA and is a top performer on the court.
"It's really important to have daily schedules and organization. I usually get up early and do some homework then go to classes. After class, I go home and do more homework before practice. At practice, I work really hard and am always trying to get better. After basketball, I spend most of my night in the library studying," Mingos said.
